Basketball scholarships in Taiwan

What to ask about university basketball in Taiwan: team selection, admission, study support and everyday costs.

The short answer

You need three separate confirmations: a team that wants you, admission to a degree and written details of financial support. A place in the team alone does not mean your tuition or living costs will be covered.

Which kind of support are you applying for?

Taiwan has government and university scholarships. Applying for an academic award is separate from talking with a coach about recruitment. Do not assume a government award is a sports scholarship or that different awards can be combined.

Ask the university which support you could receive, who approves it and what you need to do to keep it.

What does your offer cover?

Ask for a written breakdown using the points below. These are questions to discuss with the university, rather than benefits every player receives.

  • Tuition: the exact fees covered and any amount you pay yourself.
  • Housing: room type, dates, deposit and availability during holidays.
  • Meals and stipend: amount, payment schedule and first payment date.
  • Duration: renewal conditions and what happens after injury or a roster change.

How do you prepare an application?

Start with recent full games and an honest assessment of your level. Look for courses you would actually want to finish as well as teams you would like to join. We help organise those conversations; the university decides admission and the team decides recruitment.

Follow the school’s application instructions and deadlines. Confirm funding separately, then ask its international office about the official visa process.

Would Taiwan suit you?

Think about the course language, study load, coaching and daily routine. The arrangement needs to work after the first excitement of arriving has passed.

We help evaluate your games, make introductions and prepare for the move. Your choice of university should make sense for your education as well as your basketball.

  • Prepare full-game film and a concise player résumé.
  • Compare the basketball role with the academic program.
  • Get the admission and financial terms in writing before committing to travel.
