The short answer
For each university, check three things separately: admission, a place in the team and financial support. An academic or government scholarship does not automatically include basketball. Look for a degree you want, a suitable team and written confirmation of the costs covered.
Where can you research scholarships?
Study in Taiwan and the official Study in Japan website describe funding options for international students. Use them to research academic support, then speak separately with the university team.
For other destinations, contact the international admissions office. Ask which awards you could apply for, what the requirements are and which language the course uses.

Who confirms each part?
Admissions staff decide whether you can enter the degree program. The team assesses your basketball and explains registration. The university or funding provider confirms any award. You need an answer to each question before treating the whole arrangement as agreed.
- Admission: degree, teaching language, documents and deadline.
- Basketball: team, level, training routine and registration process.
- Funding: exact covered costs, duration, payments and renewal conditions.
How do you compare the costs?
Get tuition and housing quotes from the university. Add meals, transport, insurance, flights, document costs and a reserve. Note when you must pay and when any confirmed support begins.
Ask about holidays, extra academic fees, injuries and changes in your team status. Find out which grades or other conditions you must meet to keep the support next year.
| Compare | What to request |
|---|---|
| Education | Course title, language, schedule and academic progression |
| Basketball | Competition, expected role and weekly commitments |
| Funding | Itemized support and your remaining cost |
| Daily life | Accommodation, meals, transport and arrival contact |
| Next year | Renewal criteria and who makes the decision |
Talk it through with your family
Collect your questions and keep the written answers. Ask for named contacts for admissions and basketball. Look beyond the team’s games to the course, costs and ordinary weekly routine.
We help you prepare your player information, compare options and speak with universities. Use the country guides for more detail and the university’s current instructions for your application.
- Choose a degree you would want even if your playing role changes.
- Discuss language preparation before the move.
- Check the budget for the entire stay.
- Wait for the relevant written confirmations before booking around an assumed scholarship.
